Companies honored for helping disabled adults find and keep jobs

Consumer Godfrey Barnwell (above) shared the importance of his placement at Pathmark during the awards breakfast last year.

Much of what the Brooklyn Bureau accomplishes is done in partnership with key companies and businesses that are willing to give our adult clients a chance to enter the work force.

Last year, that collaboration resulted in more than 175 disabled adults being placed in jobs at 100 sites within the community last year.

Supporting this effort is the Brooklyn Bureau's Business Advisory Council (BAC). The 17 business members of the BAC assist our staff in identifying job sites that could employ our clients; and help us market our highly skilled and cost-effective services in the business community.

BAC committee members help us inform the business community at large that the disabled are a reliable, untapped labor resource. For a full listing of participating businesses click on Business Advisory Council.

BBCS celebrated the successful collaboration between our staff and these wonderful community partners at the 5th Annual Employer Awards Breakfast, held on October 1. At the breakfast, 12 of those 100 sites were honored for their enthusiastic and productive participation. To see a complete listing of the businesses honored, click on Award Recipients.

Working with these businesses are BBCS staff members from Supported Employment, Work Adjustment Training, the Aging-out Program, the Work Readiness Program, Enclaves in Industry, MetroClub, East New York Clubhouse and Adolescent Employment & Education Program.
