Being a volunteer at the Brooklyn Bureau of Community Service can enhance your life and someone else's.
We offer a wide range of opportunities for individuals, corporations and community groups interested in giving to the community and especially to those in need.
Corporations that partner with the Brooklyn Bureau discover that participation in our volunteer program is a very positive way to reinforce these values with their employees.
With over 400 participants, our dynamic volunteer program is highly respected and provides on-site training including a thorough orientation, supervision and feedback. Our staff work to find positions that match the skills, experience, desires and schedules of our applicants, who are usually placed in our
Family and Children's Services and
Adult Programs.
Volunteers do everything from working in the therapeutic garden at our transitional housing program for homeless women to tutoring children in an after-school center to leading job skills workshops. Here's what some of our volunteers have to say about their experiences:
"I get a lot of satisfaction helping people make a change in their lives." - Godfrey
"(After sitting through my college classes) one of the best ways for me to relax is to be around a lot of positive energy. I know I will always find that energy being with children." - Gerda
"I like to tutor kids in math because I like to make it fun for them." - Ellen
"It was a win-win situation when I was an English conversation partner with immigrants. I learned a lot about many different countries and cultures—holidays, food and customs—and they improved their English." - Anita
